One of the most important jobs in care industry is the job of care assistant. As a care assistant, you may be working in care homes, hospitals, and dispensing doctors or pharmacy helping out with deliverance of care services. You get to work with clients or patience closely assisting them on their care needs.
As a care assistant, your work is to make patient experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible, assisting them with taking of medicines, going to toilet, and all related duties to assist patients.
Working under guidance of a healthcare professional, duties my include;
- Washing and dressing patients
- Serve foods and help to feed patients
- Assisting care patients to move around
- Make or prepare beds
- Make patients feel comfortable and caring
- Monitor patients’ conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respiration and weigh

Since care assistant is regarded as the stepping stone to many opportunities of career in care. According to NHS be a competent care assistant one need to be;
Caring and kind, Cheerful and friendly, Willing to be hands-on with patients, Willing to do personal care tasks (washing, toileting, etc). You also need to, Able to follow instructions and procedures, Able to work in a team but use their own initiative, Have Communication skills; including listening, Organisation skills and Observational skills
